The NIH is conducting a study to examine the different types of hypertonia in patients with cerebral palsy. They will test resistance of a knee joint to external movement in different positions, knee reflexes and knee strength. The study will also identify how hypertonia affects gait function. In addition, the NIH is conducting a study to learn how muscles, tendons, and bones work together to cause motion. The procedure is one of several tools being developed to characterize normal and impaired musculoskeletal function, with the goal of developing improved methods of diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders.
